On September 24th Abyssinian Meeting House Deacons Abraham Niles and William Hamit take out an advertisement in the Portland Daily Advertiser warning ‘that Samuel W. Chase, is not Pastor of the Abysinian Church, nor is in fellowship with the Cumberland Conference, nor is not an ordained nor a licensed preacher, nor is not sent out by the Church to collect money. Signed by the Church, by the Deacons.’ Note the afflicting message below asserting Chase is the representative.
